July 2006 - Sweet Corn Is Ready!
In this issue You’ve heard it from us - so yes it is true! The 2006 season of Young’s Farm sweet corn is READY! Aaron Young picked the first ear of corn earlier this week and he says, "we saved the best crop for last!" It is officially time to start making room in your freezer so you can savor some of the freshest sweet corn in the southwest. It’s one of the state’s most popular festivals and this year will mark the last harvest of both top-rated fun and the sweetest variety of corn grown at Young’s Family Farm in Dewey. It was 30 years ago that the Young family began producing the Ambrosia variety of sweet corn that will take center stage during the two-day Young’s Sweet Corn Festival running 9a-4p July 29th and July 30th. The free event signals the start of the sweet corn season at the farm with lots to do and learn including farm secrets for quick and easy corn husking, sweet corn roasting techniques, and informative 45 minute tours of the farm with Farmer Buzz. Rated as one of the state’s top 10 events by Arizona Tourist News, the annual Sweet Corn Festival features live country and bluegrass entertainment, various arts and crafts for sale including candles, clothing, woodworking, pottery and more. Children can visit the free Critter Corral and enjoy pony rides, train rides, a pumpkin bounce, games, crafts, and all kinds of fun activities.

"Everything we offer stands above our competition," says Kevin Bode, the 2006 AJ’s Meat Manager of the Year. "It’s about quality and service." Bode has been with the AJ’s Fine Foods stores for over six years and opened AJ’s 159 on 44th street and Camelback in Phoenix two years ago. Though Young’s Farm and AJ’s have been business allies for almost two decades, it was this year that AJ’s agreed to carry Young’s Farm poultry exclusively in all of the high-end grocery stores. "Customers appreciate the ‘locally grown’ feature of Young’s Farm, plus they have a positive association with the farm’s festivals and family events," says Bode. AJ’s customers tend to rely on their grocer for healthy, hearty selections with simple preparation. To satisfy, meat managers offer varieties of stuffed chicken breasts, prepared kabobs, healthy choices of meat and fish, including boneless-skinless breasts, pounded breasts, fresh salmon, and other alternatives for a healthier lifestyle. Offering exclusive Young’s Farm poultry products in AJ’s stores supports their guarantee of wholesome, quality products and valued service to customers. Young’s Farm processes and delivers all of their poultry to AJ’s stores around the state. Fresh turkeys are available during Thanksgiving and Christmas and some AJ’s stores are carrying Young’s Farm potpies, fruit pies and other specialty items year round. "Their (Young’s Farm) service is great," comments Bode as he talks about his first visit to Dewey where the farm’s delivery driver, John Goswick, gave him a personal tour. "They are polite, on time, they meet our specifications, and they represent integrity. I hope to continue to offer their products into the future." Young’s Farm intends to provide fresh, wholesome poultry to Arizona customers for many years to come. Patrons can expect the same quality and service from these two family organizations as well as their great tasting products. "Through Young’s Farm and AJ’s we are instilling consumer confidence... this is a good partnership."
ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT Corn Feed dinners It has become tradition. Stuffing your mouth full of Young’s Farm BBQ chicken, ribs, beans, coleslaw, cobbler and of course - all of the fresh sweet corn you can eat in a four hour period.
